About
A) Brief History of the Department: The department of ODIA (Degree) started functioning from the session 1970-71. It always envisions to motivate the students of the locality for higher education and excellence in ODIA language and literature.The college introduced Honours in Odia from the session 1978-79 with 16 seats after getting affiliation from Berhampur University. Seats increased to 32 in the year 1980-81. This department has produced a large numbers of students who are engaged variously in teaching, research and other fields in both Government as well as private sectors.
B) Vision: Offer a dynamic, Interactive Odia Education that engages students in the learning process. To provide a constructive learning to promote student self assessment, motivation, decision making and analytical skills.
C) Mission: To provide students with an education of the highest quality in the odia language, in literature written in Odia and in critical and creative writing, judiciously combining breadth with depth. To enable the students to acquire communicative competence, develop decision making, enhance analytical competence so that they make quality use of language as a means of creating conducive human environment imbued with vibrant interpersonal bonding, common understanding leading to global harmony.

Special Lecturers and doubt clearing classes are arranged in every fortnight for the students.

Screening of Films and Plays, Creative Teaching, Audio Visual Tools,Role Play,Task Based Language Learning,Group Discussion,Storytelling ,Community Language Learning Method.
5) Participation of Students in Institutional Social Responsibility & Extension Activities:
The Department conducts Extension Activities like “Collection Of Odia Folk Song”, and Participating in various types of Odia Literary Competition on regular basis for Students as well as for rural youth.
Students and Teachers also participate in different social activities like Blood Donation, Active Citizenship Program, Disaster Management Programme, Gender Sensitization Programme, Campus Cleaning, Plantation, NCC, NSS, YRC Programmes, etc.
6) SWOC Analysis of the Department:
Strength:
Experienced and dedicated Faculty over the years. Faculty with Good Research and Publication activities.
Weakness:
Socio-economic background of many of the students (some of them are first- and second-generation learners) admitted in the College is responsible for poor language competence (both in their mother tongue). This leads to an unsatisfactory level of comprehension and communication, particularly in the first two semesters.
Opportunities:
Employment opportunities in the field of Teaching and Research in Odia Literature and Language, Journalism, Content Writing, Corporate Communication,
High Profile Jobs .
