PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT
- (a) Brief History of the Department : –
Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and Premier department of Ganjam College. It was set up in the year, when the college came into its existence. This Department started in the academic year 1971-72 with an objective to impart quality commerce education among the students of the locality identified with the erstwhile Jayshree Chemical Industry.
The college has introduced Honours in Commerce of Accounting from the same academic year with 32 seats. Later on it was extended up to 96 seats and further up to 128 seats. Due to poor enrollment now seats in Commerce reduced to 64. The Department introduced Semester system with CBCS pattern from the year 2015-16.
Regular seminars are conducted in which the final year students are encouraged to deliver seminar talks. Eminent speakers are invited at periodic intervals to deliver talks on topics of academic interest. Apart from studies, the students also engage themselves in various extension activities like sapling plantation, blood donation, cleanliness drive etc. as a part of their social responsibility.
Ganjam College was known across district borders for Commerce Education. It has produced a galaxy of students who are engaged in various public and private sectors.

- To raise the standard of our students to global levels and make them employable.
(c) Mission: –
To provide education not only to acquire knowledge but also to inculcate a sound philosophy for a holistic living & guide the students to strive towards perfection and competence.

Strength:
