PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Name of the Department: BOTANY
The Department of Botany commenced its journey in the academic year 1978-79, with a mission to inspire students towards higher education and empower them to confidently navigate the job market. In the academic year 1991-92, the college introduced an Honours program in Botany, initially accommodating 16 seats. This number was doubled to 32 seats by the 2015-16 academic year.
In addition to the Honours curriculum, the department also imparts knowledge in environmental studies to students in the Arts and Commerce streams at the degree level. The department maintains a seminar library offering students access to reference books. Regular seminars are conducted in which the final-year students are encouraged to present seminar talks. Moreover, the department frequently invites eminent speakers to discuss topics of academic and contemporary relevance.
Beyond academics, students actively participate in various extension activities, including sapling plantation drives, blood donation camps, and cleanliness campaigns, embodying their social responsibility and community spirit. Over the years, the Department of Botany has produced numerous graduates who have excelled in both secondary and higher education sectors in Odisha and have made significant contributions to various private industries.
- Vision: to develop the overall personality of the students by making them academically sound in their subjects who in turn can utilize their acquired knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.
- Mission: Our mission is to provide a great learning environment for Botany. To equip students with the essential knowledge and skills preparing them for a wide range of careers in plant sciences.
